“Faith does the impossible because it lets God undertake for us, and nothing is impossible for God… Prayer throws faith on God and God on the world. Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer move God.” E. M. Bounds
Do You want God to answer your prayers? I think we all do. We believe in the power of prayer, but when it comes down to our own individual problems and trials, we often don’t have the faith to believe that God will answer. Unbelief and independence trap us. Our lack of faith and our fear of stepping out in dependence on Him are what get in the way. The truth is that the things we do for God should be outside of our own abilities.
They should be evidence that we are depending on Him and trusting in His supernatural ability to do the impossible.
When we back away from dependence on God, we are not living by faith. We are not depending on Him but on our own strength. We need to be willing to attempt things big enough that unless God steps in, we are sure to fail. Faith is like jumping out of an airplane at fifteen thousand feet or walking on a tightrope between two mountains. If God doesn’t catch you or guide your every move, you will fall and crash. But how do you know unless you jump or walk on that tightrope? This is the kind of faith and dependence He is looking for in our lives.
What step of faith is God asking you to take today? What trial are you facing? Will you put everything into His almighty hands, and step out by faith in whatever way He leads? When you do this, you become totally dependent in His dependable hands.
A Prayer for Dependence on God
Dear Lord, I want to learn to trust You with my life and the adversity that I am right now facing. I choose to embrace this difficulty and to make the most out of it so that not one day will be wasted. I say not my will, but yours. I want to learn to trust you right now. I give you this difficult situation and I lay it before You. [Give to the Lord whatever difficulty you are facing.] I trust You to break through in Your way and in Your timing. I thank you that I am unique and that You carefully fashioned me in a special way. Help me to learn what you want me to learn and to go the way you want me to go during this trial. Take the striving out of my life and the self-sufficiency in my heart. Help me not to make my own plans and then ask you to bless them. Teach me to listen to You and then do Your will wholeheartedly. Show me Your plan for this day and help me to live it out joyfully.
Forgive me for all the times in my life where I have forced my own plans and will, and change me to be one who lays everything at your feet. Lord, I want to give you my time and my devotion. I give you my hours of solitude, and I make it my choice to be in Your presence and to practice hour-by-hour dependence on You. Convict me whenever I go my own way. I choose to do it your way now. Help me Lord. I acknowledge my total dependence on you at this moment. All that I have is Yours and belongs to You. All my rights of ownership are Yours because You have purchased me with a great price. You are what I need and You are the one I desire. I am under Your leadership. You are mine and what is Yours becomes mine. I am Your child. Take my weakness and sustain me. I thank You that I am under Your protection. I thank you that You are my security. You are my rock and refuge. Thank You that You know how to manage my life perfectly. I am so blessed because of You. In Jesus name, amen.
