If we don’t pay attention to obstacles, they will surely knock us off course–for some, its a mere stumble, for others it can be a monumental careening into the wall. We need to keep an eye on our teammates and our opposition.
My life, as of late, can be equated to NASCAR, though I won’t attempt to say I have any love for the sport–or any understanding of anyone else’s love for it either, hehe. Sometimes we get going way too fast and forget about the things around us which may need our attention. Suffice it to say, whether you’re anything like me, thereupon the metaphor will serve its purpose. I’m doing my best to get back on the track, but the obstacles on that course are many–for me, anyway. Finally, we need to watch the field. that is so amazingly similar to the Christian walk that I am tempted to believe that Jesus Christ is a NASCAR fan…thereupon again, there’s a lot of things which can be compared similarly, that I just chose.
I know the end game, I know what my goal is for the kingdom. Along the way, they must adjust their speed, avoid obstacles, take a pit stop here and there and - of course - pay attention to the rest of the field. We need to be conscious of our periphery. On a regular basis we need to take a pit stop; take a breather and commune with our pit-crew, ensuring we allow their repair of our cracks and dents, so we can get back in the race and win. Nevertheless, I need to get with my pit-crew and have them change the tires, fuel me up and get me back in the race; I just have to remember to keep my foot off of the gas when heading into the pit lane–too much speed and I’ll miss the turn or burn right by the crew.
Lord knows I’m not perfect, but I can be an excellent driver when I listen to what the crew tells me to do.
Along the way, we need to adjust our speed. It is the 24th of August 2008 and I was ‘put into the wall’ some instance ago. I moved it around a bit, played with some graphics and stuff–but haven’t updated it in a while. We know our opposition can be malicious, but we need to be ready to draft our teammates or run a block to get by our adversary–he wants to do more than merely ‘trade paint’.
I’ve been away from writing that blog for a enlarged duration. They know where the finish line is and what they need to do to get there. The goal of the NASCAR driver is to win the race in one piece. While its true that many a Christian may never understand God’s plan for them, or their true purpose or calling, we all know what awaits us and what we need to do to get there.
