Now you have made the decision to home school, you will need to find the right kind of lessons for your child. Where do you find these lessons? Maybe you know of some other families that home school. You could ask to see a sample of their lessons to see if it would suit you. There are some considerations to think about. Firstly - cost.

Lessons must be purchased and no doubt some will cost more than others. You will want to have the best you can afford, without having to take out a second mortgage on the home to pay for them. It is possible to get lessons from several different places. The internet has many options and it is up to you whether you go for private lessons, lessons from the Internet (free or paid), or whether you follow the curriculum currently being taught at your local school.

It is possible to buy ‘used’ lessons from other home schoolers. Not the finished lessons or course, but the lesson curriculum and text books. If you have access to other home schoolers in your state this can be a great option. It will both help you and them. It is possible to find home school groups for your state on the Internet or at the library. Even an advertisement in the local newspaper could turn up something.

Free lessons are also available from the Internet. It is an invaluable tool so be sure to use it as much as possible. Of course, you may wish to teach your from a state curriculum, or correspondence school. That way you will be sure the learn what they need to know to get into college. Especially if you are just starting out and are unsure of yourself. But then, as you gain confidence and see what other home schoolers are doing, you may decide to go with something else. But these days, more and more colleges are happily accepting who have been home schooled. They may simply need to supply projects and samples of their work to prove that they are capable of the work expected of them.

Many states have different rules about home schooling, so make sure you find out in advance what these are. Once again, the Internet is a wonderful place to do this, or you could visit your local school ahead of time and ask them. Mostly you will have to inform the school that you intend to teach your at home, in advance of the school year.
