The intriguing number of background facts surrounding the voyage of Noah’s ark in the 17th Century B.C. is truly astonishing:
In the time of Noah, no-one had ever designed a boat let alone built one. No-one had ever seen rain before. What a shock it would have been when it rained from the skies to in fact cover all the earth with water. For well over one year, Noah’s faithful family of eight persons lived with, and cared for the animals inside the Noah’s ark.
For it was on the 17th day of the 17th month, that Noah’s ark finally came to rest on a mountain around half the height of the world’s tallest mountain. Mt Ararat stands boldly nestled in it’s proximity between modern-day Turkey, Russia and Iran standing in fact 5.165 kms high — to Mt Everest’s 9.68 kms.
The Lord’s judgment on the unrighteous heart of humankind in Noah’s day came at a time in history when man had lived to around 900 years. So to limit the compounding and escalating effects of man’s lawlessness on the earth, the lord Creator of the heavens and the earth in his infinite wisdom, diminished man’s longevity to only 120 years.
