As dramatically retold in The Kids Bible Company production of “The Animated Kid’s Bible,” Episode Four: “Rain Of Fire,” Abram (soon to be renamed Abraham) rests in his tent having vigorously and courageously fought against an invading enemy. Having restored Lot and his family back to Sodom — the Lord God reassures and soothes Abram:

“Do not be afraid Abram. I will keep you from danger and give you great rewards!”

“…Lord, what good are your rewards seeing I have no children? The person who will inherit all my wealth is Eliezer of Damascus! You’ve given me no children. So a servant will inherit all my property!”

God advises Abram, “That man will not inherit your property. I will give you a son of your own. Go outside Abram. And I will show you something. Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can, your future families will be like the stars — they will be too many to count! I am the Lord God. I gave you this land to inherit!”

That night God made a promise to Abram — a promise that would last for all eternity!

Abraham is recorded in the Scriptures as the “father of faith.” It was his faith and the blessings in his life initiated by God that became the featured testimony of his life lived on the earth — as a chronicle of God’s goodness to the generations that follow! But did Abram fulfill the specific required conditions of God’s promise for the abundant life? Was Abram in fact in a vital relationship with the source of abundance?

James 2:23 reveals the answer: “And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God.” (New Living Translation)
