Story:

In the land of Israel, during the time of King Ahab, there was a prophet named Elijah. Elijah was a bold and faithful servant of God who fearlessly proclaimed His word to the people.

One day, God spoke to Elijah and instructed him to confront King Ahab and the prophets of the false god Baal. A severe drought had gripped the land, and the people had turned away from God, worshiping idols instead.

Elijah obeyed God’s command and challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel. He gathered the people of Israel and said to them, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”

The prophets of Baal eagerly accepted Elijah’s challenge. They built an altar and prepared a sacrifice, calling on Baal to send fire from heaven to consume it. They cried out and danced around the altar, but no fire came.

Then it was Elijah’s turn. He rebuilt the altar of the Lord, placed the sacrifice on it, and even dug a trench around it. Then he poured water over the sacrifice not once, not twice, but three times, filling the trench with water.

Elijah prayed to God, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant.” And immediately, fire blazed down from heaven, consuming the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and even the water in the trench.

The people of Israel fell to their knees and declared, “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” And Elijah’s faithfulness to God was proven before all.

Question:

What challenge did Elijah issue to the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel?

Story:

Following this incredible display of God’s power, He commanded the people to seize the prophets of Baal, and they were all put to death. Then He told King Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.”

He went to the top of Mount Carmel, bowed down to the ground, and prayed earnestly for rain. Soon, a small cloud appeared in the sky, and before long, the heavens grew dark with clouds, and a mighty rainstorm swept across the land, ending the long drought.

Through his unwavering faith and obedience to God, the people of Israel witnessed His miraculous power and turned their hearts back to Him. Elijah continued to serve as a prophet of God, speaking His word with boldness and conviction.

Answer:

He challenged the prophets of Baal to call on their god to send fire from heaven to consume a sacrifice on Mount Carmel.
