Lot

The Story of Lot’s Journey

A long time ago, in the land of Canaan, there lived a man named Lot. Lot was the nephew of a wise and righteous man named Abraham. Lot and Abraham were very close, and they both loved and obeyed God. They lived in a beautiful land, but their lives were about to change.

Lot and his family lived in the city of Sodom, which was a very different place from where they had come from. The people of Sodom were not kind, and they did not follow God’s ways. They did many things that were wrong, and their hearts were full of wickedness. It was a city filled with selfishness, greed, and disrespect for God’s commandments.

One day, God spoke to Abraham and told him that He was going to destroy the city of Sodom because its people were so wicked. God had seen all the wrong things happening in Sodom, and He could no longer let it continue. But because Abraham was a righteous man, God decided to show mercy to him. He promised that if there were even a few good people in the city, He would spare it from destruction. Abraham, who cared deeply for him, prayed to God, asking if He would save the city for the sake of the righteous people who might still be living there.

God agreed to Abraham’s request. He said He would not destroy the city if there were just ten righteous people in Sodom. But, sadly, there were not enough good people left. So, God decided to send two angels to rescue Lot and his family before the city was destroyed.

The angels arrived in Sodom one evening and went to his  house. They warned him that the city was going to be destroyed and told him to leave right away with his family. They urged Lot to hurry and not look back, for the destruction would come quickly.

Lot, knowing that this was a serious warning from God, gathered his wife and two daughters. They quickly packed and began to leave Sodom. They ran as fast as they could, trusting that God would keep them safe. Lot’s family was in a hurry, and their hearts were filled with fear and uncertainty. But they trusted in God’s protection and followed the angels’ instructions.

As they were fleeing, something happened that made his  journey even harder. Lot’s wife, who had lived in Sodom for a long time, couldn’t resist the temptation to look back at the city she had once called home. She turned around for one last glance, and the moment she did, something incredible happened. She turned into a pillar of salt!

Lot and his daughters were devastated. They had just lost their beloved mother and wife in a tragic way. But they continued on their journey, even though their hearts were heavy. They trusted in God’s guidance and knew that He was leading them to safety.

After a long and difficult journey, Lot and his daughters reached a small town called Zoar. This town was one of the places that God had spared from destruction, and it was a safe place for Lot and his daughters to live. They were grateful to be alive and safe, and they thanked God for His mercy. From that day on, Lot and his daughters lived in Zoar and tried to follow God’s commandments. They knew they had been saved by God’s grace, and they wanted to live in a way that pleased Him.

What Can We Learn from his Journey?

Now that we’ve heard about Lot’s journey, there are some important lessons we can learn from his story.

  1. Listen to God’s Warnings: Just like the people of Sodom ignored God’s warnings and continued in their wickedness, we need to listen carefully when God speaks to us. God gives us guidance through the Bible and through the people around us. When we hear God’s warning, we should take it seriously and make the right choices.
  2. Obey God’s Instructions: Lot and his family obeyed God’s command to leave Sodom. Even though they were scared and sad, they trusted that God knew what was best for them. When God gives us instructions, we should follow them with faith and obedience, knowing that His way is always the best way.
  3. Trust in God’s Protection: Lot trusted that God would protect him and his family, and God kept His promise. Even in the face of danger, Lot believed that God would lead them to safety. We can trust that God will protect us too, no matter what challenges we face in life.
  4. Don’t Look Back: Lot’s wife looked back at Sodom, and it caused her to lose everything. Sometimes, when we look back at the wrong things from our past, it can lead us away from God’s plan for us. Instead, we should focus on moving forward and trusting in God’s future for us. God has good things planned for us if we keep our eyes on Him.
  5. God is Merciful: Even though the people of Sodom were wicked, God showed mercy to Lot and his family. God is full of mercy and love, and He is always ready to forgive us when we turn to Him. No matter what mistakes we’ve made in the past, we can always seek God’s forgiveness and start fresh.

The Ending:

As we come to the end of Lot’s journey, let’s remember the important lessons we learned from his story. Just like Lot, we are called to listen to God’s warnings, follow His commands, and trust in His protection. When we make mistakes or face challenges, we can always count on God to lead us in the right direction.

Let’s pray:

“Dear God, thank You for protecting Lot and his family and for showing us the importance of trusting in You. Help us to always listen to Your warnings and obey Your commands. We know that You will guide us and keep us safe if we trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

We hope you enjoyed this adventure with Lot, young explorers! Remember, God is always with you, guiding you on your journey. Keep trusting Him and making choices that honor Him every day!
